King Henry IV Part 2 (Act 3 Scene 2) Justice Shallow's Seat in Gloucestershire

Thomas Ryder 1746 - 1810

Summary

The scene is set in a baronial hall. A fat knight sits on a settle with two other men behind him on the right of the print. He has a plumed hat and a sword; a servant brings him a shield. He holds his right arm out to the first in a procession of males. The first is ragged and holds up a large blunderbuss. Another figure walks out of the picture to the left. Falstaff is sitting on a bench alongside Justice Shallow and Silence. He is asking Thomas Wart, dressed in rags, to parade with a gun. This is the 9th print from Volume 2 of 'A Collection of Prints from Pictures Painted for the Purpose of Illustrating the Dramatic Works of Shakespeare by the Artists of Great Britain (1805)'. The description is 'Shallow, Silence, Falstaff, Boy, Mouldy, Shadow, Wart, Feeble, and Bull-calf'.
