Garret Hall, Manchester, Previous to its Demolition
John Harwood (after) 1798 - 1856
Summary
A view of Garret Hall, Manchester, on the bank of the river Medlock. This view of the hall shows its varied construction, with four gable ends visible and different patterns of half-timbering, chimneys, and decorative finials. The river flows in the foreground, with several birds at its edge, and a woman with a washing tub. Another woman with a young child sits on the riverbank, apparently at leisure. Behind the hall to the left is what could be a large cotton mill, with a smoking chimney, whereas on the right a smaller more rural building is visible. A strange detail is the enormous but faint cross that leans in the distance before the cotton mill
