Clarkson Frederick Stanfield R.A. 1793 - 1867

Summary

Urban landscape seen from a high vantage point. In the foreground to the left, a woman hangs out laundry to dry; to her right, is a woman carrying a basket on her head with a young child by her side. Further down the slope are draught horses next to a cart with other figure groups nearby. To the right is a group of tall buildings built on a slope; at the base of the slope is a viaduct with a building under construction at its far end. In the midground is a large expanse of water. There are mountains in the distant background.
