Focus on Ancoats

Ancoats was the world's first industrial suburb; its workers lived amongst the thriving factories which eventually overwhelmed and then discarded them. Famous for its textile and glass factories, it also had an innovative art museum. This was created for the people of the area to educate them and enrich their lives. To complement our historical material we have asked people from the neighbourhood to express their ideas of modern-day Ancoats.
