Summary

Portrait of Sir Robert Peel (1750-1830). He is shown at three-quarter length, seated bfore a billowing drape and a classical landsape. He leans to one side in his chair, and holds something - perhaps papers - in his left hand. He wears britches buttoned at the knee, a coat, a waistcoat and neckcloth. His right hand is clasped and his mouth seems preparing to speak. Peel was an industrialist, politician, millionaire and noted opponent of the abolition of slavery.
