Paquin

Summary

Black ribbed silk (faille) dinner dress; princess line and bias cut with curved panels at waist and interestingly cut panels forming the flared skirt; long narrow sleeves with 6 small self-covered buttons (one missing) and edged in cream figured silk; collarless v-neck; shoulder pads; long cf opening, fastening with 8 pairs of large black glass domed buttons (one missing) and then with hooks and eyes on the edge; printed label attached to waistband: 'Paquin, Paris & London', and written tape label: 'Mrs Stanley'. Sent for sale from the wardrobe dept of Gwent Theatre in Abergavenny whence it had come from the Redgrave Threatre in Farnham (when it had closed). Like 2008.62, it probably belonged to Phyllis Stanley (b.1914) the English actress and friend of Michael Redgrave who had founded the theatre initially. This particular printed label was reserved for the London Paquin showroom.
