Summary

Crew necked jumper, jacquard knitted; cream ground with mock tattoos front and back spelling 'Hope' and 'Trust' with 'Honour', 'Luck' and 'Love' on each sleeve; woven label cb neck: Jay Musson, made in England, Dry Clean' . This jumper was worn by the Communards for a promotional video in 1987. Donated by Jay Musson Knitwear. The partnership of Jay Musson and Stephen Bennington began at Manchester School of Art in the 1960s, and after degrees at Central St Martins and Chelsea, they launched their first line of knitwear in 1971. For the mid to late 1970s and early 1980s, their boldly patterned knitwear achieved major success, with Stevie Wonder and the Communards wearing jumpers.They produced their last line (waistcoats) in 1991.
