Summary

Public: Teapot, stoneware, solid blue jasper, with applied white reliefs depicting classical figures. Private: Globular teapot tapering to neck, with flat, slightly recessed base. Solid blue jasper decorated around sides with two scenes in high relief; crowned Cybele on a rock with overturned cornucopia in left hand, young tree in right hand, lion and small boy to left; Venus standing in large scallop shell, pulled across the sea by two harnessed dolphins, third dolphin and Cupid swimming behind. Wide band of engine-turned vertical ribbing around lower body. Ribbed handle and spout with moulded blue acanthus detail at top of handle and bottom of spout. Spout discoloured, pale cloudy colour. Domed cover with engine-turned vertical ribbing, outer border of white acanthus, and central ball finial with applied white band, bordered by white beads and simple leaves. Centre of finial pierced.
