Summary

Public: Figure of Time Clipping the Wings of Love, soft paste porcelain, painted in yellow, pink, purple, blue, green, brown, black, turquoise and iron red overglaze enamels and gilt. Private: Figure of Time, elderly bearded man with large white wings, dressed from waist down in a pale yellow robe with purple, red and gilt flowers and pink lining. He sits against bank of mottled green and brown with right leg forward, holding Cupid, figure of Love against his knee with left arm. Cupid struggles against him as he spreads out Cupid's right wing ready to clip it with scissors held in right hand (not original). Symbolic objects scattered at the old man's feet include brown hourglass, quiver of arrows in black and brown, crown in brown and gilt, turquoise wreath, yellowish skull and globe painted with streaky patterns in green, yellow, purple, brown and red. Scrolling Rococo base, picked out in turquoise and gilt.
