The transformation of Gallery 3 and the expanding mission of art in Manchester
Manchester Art Gallery
Saturday 21 November 2020, 4pm–5pm
Free, please book on Eventbrite
Manchester Art Gallery’s re opening to the public on Thursday 20 August has heralded the arrival of an exciting and innovative era. The transformation of Gallery 3 now enables historic, modern and contemporary art to speak to one another in ways that can generate new worlds of ideas and experience in all of us. Join our Guide John Ward as he explores the many links between Art and the rich heritage of Manchester’s own peoples. Along the way we will encounter some familiar, old friends – certainly fans of The Hireling Shepherd, The Cheetah and the Stag and Ira Aldridge for example, will not be disappointed. But it is the positioning of such works within the cultural context of a vibrant and growing city that we will find truly breathtaking.
Manchester Art Gallery has an amazing team of volunteer guides who deliver tours at the gallery usually four times a week.
While we can’t gather people together physically for tours at this time, the team will be delivering online sessions twice a month using Zoom.
Saturdays 4 – 5pm
We will be using the platform Zoom to bring people together.
You can access zoom through a laptop, tablet or smart phone. You don’t need to create an account to access the session.
