Geoffrey Chaucer

William Blake 1757 - 1827

Summary

Painting depicting a left hand profile perspective bust portrait of Geoffrey Chaucer, with downcast eyes, surrounded by a wreath of laurel leaves. There are two Canterbury Pilgrims on horseback, one of which is the Wife of Bath on the right. The other, on the left, is a pilgrim. The bust contains no colour, but the laurel wreath is highly coloured in various shades of green. Some aquamarine blue detailing extends from the wreath to cover the background.
