Assisi from the City Walls

Susan Isabel Dacre 1844 - 1933

Summary

Landscape painting depicting the city on Assisi as well as surrounding rural area and hills extending into the distance. In the middle ground the city is depicted as if viewed from a hill at a slight vantage point. A church with a bell tower is visible to the right of the city with other surrounding houses painted in very light brown. The city walls are visible surrounding the city. The viewer gets the impression that the city is in fact quite extensive as it extends to the right of the picture plane and out of view. The sky is bright blue with a few clouds. Other small structures can be seen to the left, probably farmhouses as they are surrounded by fields.
