Summary

Public: Globular teapot on three claw-and-ball feet, white salt-glazed stoneware, with slip-cast relief decoration of pecten shells and decorative borders. Private: Globular teapot on three feet, each in the form of a claw-and-ball surmounted by a mask. Short cylindrical neck, tapering plain octagonal spout, and plain handle with two broad notches cut in thumb rest, and series of shallow notches in lower rat's tail terminal. Lower body slip-cast with three stylised pecten shells, each differing in detail, between three applied feet, surrounded by scrolling flowering stems. Double border around waist of formalised flowering plants, within narrow rope twist borders. Shoulder decorated with three pecten shell motifs, alternating with three sprays of acorns and oak leaves. Shallow domed cover with flattened rim, button finial and small pierced hole, decorated with relief borders of anthemion, rope twist and formalised flowering plants. Fine cast white body.
