Summary

A reproduction produced by the Vasari Society of a drawing by Peter Paul Rubens. The drawing shows a farmer scything his crops beside a hay wagon. The farmer is to the left of the composition and is walking towards the left. He is lifting the scythe above his head and behind him are bundles of hay stacked up. The hay wagon is to the right and is pointing backwards and to the left. The original drawing is in black and red chalk. Text from the accompanying booklet produced by the Vasari Society: "No. 21 PETER PAUL RUBENS (b. 1577; d. 1640) A MAN THRESHING CORN Collection of the Duke of Devonshire, Chatsworth. Black and red chalk. 18.4 x 30.4 cm. (7 1/4 x 12 in.) An empty waggon [sic] standing in a farm-yard, and a man threshing corn. One of a group of studies of farm life, another example of which, the 'Woman Churning', was published in the last portfolio of the Vasari Society [Manchester City Art Gallery accession number: 1932-71/15]. The drawing is not in Rooses' catalogue."
