Three Female Figure Studies for 'Captive Andromache'

Lord Frederic Leighton 1830 - 1896

Summary

Black and white preparatory drawing with three figure-studies of women for the painting, 'Captive Andromache'. On the left is one figure with a pot supported on her left shoulder by her right hand and holds the drapery of her robes out to the side with her left hand. On the right are two smaller scale drawings; in the upper drawing the figure has bowed her arms by her side and has a pot at her feet. The figure in the lower drawing echoes the figure on the left with her right arm held across the crown of her head to support a pot on her left shoulder and holding out her robe.
