Summary

Wartime beach scene depicting ships in port. A broad stretch of sand in the foreground is covered with swirling trackmarks and footprints. Just off-centre in the work, a slither of shoreline and sea is populated by sea birds and a variety of ships, including a steam paddle boat on the far right hand side. Steam from some of the ships clouds in the air, and the larger vessel on the image's left hand side features semaphore flags. At the left hand side of the image, the port structure can be seen with a white lighthouse at its end. The top third of the painting is made up of overcast sky, dotted with zeppelin air crafts.
