suit

Cristobal Balenciaga 1895 - 1972

Summary

Emerald green wool. Lined with green jap silk. Jacket : Rectangular turn-down collar. Double breasted with slightly shaped pieces extending round to side back. Top front edge folded over in small lapel. Four buttons on right and left front. Straight three quarter sleeves. Lining probably is not original. Skirt : Waistband opening at left back fastening with one hook and bar and snap above zip. Side front seams open for 20cm at top giving access to pockets. Lined. Label inner jacket : "Balenciaga 10 Avenue George V. Paris" and "Made in France" The suit is described by owner as 'much loved', and may have been re-lined, which would account for the rather poor quality of stitching (not couture standard). The donor is very reliable and describes the outfit with blouse 'as shown in the collection' .
