Old Victoria Market
Frederick Lawrence Tavare 1846 - 1930
Summary
A view of a parade of shops. The shops are open-fronted, and constructed of glass and iron, with a canopy covering the pavement before them. Behind these shops are larger Georgian-style urban buildings, and to the right is an older, half-timbered house. The shops (one of which is Jennings', a fruiterer), sell various items which cannot be clearly seen. The butcher's shop on the right belongs to 'A KEMP'. Several horse-drawn vehicles are in the street, The style of painting is naive, with the buildings appearing to have their straight lines made with a ruler, and the people and animals seem stiff.
