Albert Street, Manchester
Arthur Sherwood Edwards 1887 - 1960
Summary
On the right is a tall building in ruins. On the ground is rubble. Other buildings can be seen in the background. Manchester was particularly severely bombed by the Luftwaffe in late December 1940. This image may be of the destruction resulting from this 'Christmas blitz.'. Albert Street ran nearly parallel with the river Irwell in Manchester city centre, between Bridge Street and Blackfriars Bridge. Edwards was an architect and sculptor who worked for Manchester City Council’s Architects Department.
