Summary

Public: Lidded sugar bowl, soft paste porcelain, printed in underglaze cobalt blue with flowers. Private: Circular sugar bowl with straight sides, swelling slightly to curved base and tall narrow footring. Creamy off-white body printed in underglaze blue with floral spray, including roses, rose buds and rose hips. Round rest of body smaller sprays of flowers and single butterfly. Border of two parallel blue lines running round rim. Domed, badly fitting lid with flattened sloping edge rising to high point in centre with moulded flower and leaves finial. Printed round one side of lid with Chinoiserie scene of zigzagging fence and flowers, long stem of flowers reaching round other side of lid towards two small flying birds. Border of two parallel lines round rim. Underglaze blue has bled slightly. Pattern : fence.
