Summary

Graphic landscape. Harrowed field to foreground. Bare tree and fallen tree to the right. The shadow of the fallen tree can be seen across the foreground to the right and centre. A line of mixed trees can be seen at midground. Swallows / Swifts can be seen in the left foreground and amongst tangled branches in the foreground. A vertical column of birds can be seen above the trees in the left background. Shafts of sunlight cross the sky from upper right to lower left. Claughton Pellew studied at the Slade School of Art, London, from 1907 to 1911 alongside artist brothers Paul and John Nash. He left London after the Slade and settled in Norfolk in near total isolation with his wife, artist Kechie Tennent - see 1939.43. .
