Sunset on the Severn
Benjamin Williams Leader 1831 - 1923
Summary
An impressionistic landscape view of the River Severn at sunset, with calm waters reflecting a dramatic clouded sky. The river bank to the right is almost in darkness, a group of houses with smoking chimneys are visible amongst the trees, with a few small figures on the bank. A small is boat moored near to the bank in the bottom left corner. The painting displays a heavily moddled design with some unnatural colours used, such as an extensive use of varying shades of purple. The paint application itself appears somewhat textured, resulting in an impressionistic representation of the land.
