The Horseshoe Bend of the Severn

Philip Wilson Steer, 1860 - 1942

The Horseshoe Bend of the Severn

Philip Wilson Steer 1860 - 1942

Summary

Landscape view across flat fields and woodland towards the meandering River Severn, which forms a horseshoe bend in the distance to right. Trees are scattered across the landscape which is coloured in a patchwork of brown, green and yellow tones. The paintwork is loose and textured, especially in the sky, where these gestural marks seem to indicate turbulent weather.
