Summary

Portrait of Hugh Oldham, Bishop of Exeter (c1450s-1519). The bishop stands by a table to his left, on which rests a book. His hand, with a large ring on his little finger, rests on the book. He holds a sword in his other hand, with the pommel at his chest, and the sheathed blade pointing downwards. He wears a substantial loose robe-like coat over his long robe. A drape and his coat of arms are in the background. He gazes towards the right. Hugh Oldham was the founder of Manchester Grammar School. One of nine portraits in Agnew and Zanetti's 1828-32 set entitled 'Collegiate Church, Manchester'.
