Summary

Public: Circular punch bowl, white earthenware, with transfer-printed European landscape in cobalt blue beneath a pearlware glaze. Private: Thrown circular bowl with deep well and prominent circular footring. Interior printed with rural landscape known as 'Tower', adapted from view in the Roman Campagna. Crenellated tower on arched bridge over a river, set in landscape of rolling hills with tall trees and several cottages in the background. River bank in foreground to right, with two fishermen sitting at water's edge in middle distance, three pigeons in bottom foreground. Wide border inside rim of violets and other flowers against soft blue ground, narrow acanthus around rim edge. Exterior printed with same Italian landscape repeated three times, interrupted in places where transfer has not fitted curved surface. Plain footring.
