Garrat Hall
Summary
HG James made a series of35 lithographs of old halls around Manchester, of which this is one. Garrat Hall (sometimes spelled Garratt or Garrett) appears here as an Elizabethan half-timbered hall, with a stone-tiled roof and tall chimney stacks. The view of the hall, which fills the picture, is of a frontage of four gable-ends. The small diamond-shapes of the leaded windows are given a glittering effect on this sunny, peaceful day. Two women and a small child are grouped in the foreground, and a man and woman are shown nearer to the hall behind.
