Study for Base of Statues, Albert Square

Adolphe Valette 1876 - 1942

Summary

Freely painted study of the statue pedestals in Albert Square. To both the left and right of the composition are the towering forms of the bases with waisted sections. Standing below those to the left are the small, dark shapes of two figures prevented from getting too close to the monuments by iron railings. In the centre of the composition is a figure walking from the right edge, wearing a hat and long coat. In the background are the suggested features of surrounding buildings.
