Summary
Ink and watercolour schematic drawing on wood block of two mountain ridges/trenches. According to 1904 exhibition catalogue of 'Ruskin Exhibition' (Manchester City Art Gallery) it was one of a number intended for Modern Painters but later cancelled, wood engraving not being adequate to reproduce a wash drawing. This was intended for figs 20 and 21, 'Modern Painters' vol. 4 (pp202 and 203), 'The Trench of the Valley of Chamonix and the Peaks Above the Trench'.
