Summary

Wheel-engraved image of infant Bacchus astride a cask, holding a bottle in his right hand and a goblet in his left; mirror-image scrolling vines separate him on either side from the opposite image of a flowing fountain, while a vine wreath circles the rim of the goblet. Number "15" has been scratched twice on pontil mark.

Bacchus goblet 1710-30 England This massive ceremonial glass is engraved with the Roman god of wine, Bacchus. It would have been passed around a group of drinkers, each taking a sip from it. Dr David Lloyd Roberts bequest 1920.803
