Summary

Printed image of Albert Square in Manchester. The paper on which the image is printed has the texture of a late nineteenth-century illustrated newspaper, and the picture has been closely cropped, as if clipped out from a publication. The image shows a view from on high of the square, with the Town Hall to the left, and rows of two-dimensional-looking five-storey commercial buildings to the right. The perspective of the square has been opened out so that it appears vast. The Albert Memorial in the centre is especially large in proportion to its size in reality. People and their horses and carriages populate the scene, their small size only serving to make the square appear even larger. The square appears unpaved, as it has been given a rutted texture.
