Summary
Wide bowl with shallow domed cover, on spreading foot with high, oversized pedestal, all in solid blue jasper. Foot of bowl decorated with acanthus leaf border round outer edge, underside of bowl with band of curling acanthus fronds. This is surmounted by 'Bacchanalian Boys', two groups of three naked, carousing boys, between two heavy grapevines laden with fruit, suspended in festoons from single paterae near rim. Narrow guilloche border set into bowl around rim, inside of bowl lapidary polished. Shallow domed cover with large central spherical finial. Elaborate relief decoration of heavy grapevine festoons in bands between guilloche and acanthus borders. Finial decorated with tiny floral festoons, guilloche border, and palm leaves, single white patera on top. Pedestal of swollen cubic shape with scroll-like moulded corners decorated with white relief acanthus leaves and paterae. Side panels decorated with single figure scenes of Flora, two flying zephyrs and a woman at an altar, each contained within rectangular blue moulded border.
