Summary

Public: Amphora shaped vase with narrow neck and two handles on a square plinth. Stoneware, pale blue jasper with white relief decoration on the main body of 'Sportive Love', Venus bouncing Cupid on her knee on one side and a young girl reading to two children on the other. Private: Amphora shaped vase with spreading foot and square plinth with concave sides and chamfered corners, all in pale blue jasper. White relief decoration of palm leaves along plinth sides, acanthus at corners. Plain foot with shallow engine-turned ribbing and white beaded band at junction with body. Main body decorated with scenes of 'Sportive Love', Venus bouncing Cupid on her knee, on one side, and a young girl reading to two smaller children by a tripod altar on the other. Lower body below decorated with radiating palm leaves, white laurel border set into shoulder above. Narrow neck with flared rim, shallow engine-turned ribbing and narrow band of hand-rolled white beads. Two solid white handles in the form of plaited lion manes with lion mask terminals at shoulder, reaching up to neck rim. Ill-fitting cover (not original) decorated with white band round central finial and radiating palm leaves.
