El Amor Y La Muerte (Love and Death)

Francisco Goya Y Lucientes 1746 - 1828

Summary

A couple in anguish is in the middle of the scene. The male figure is facing to the left wearing a pale coat and 3/4 length trousers tied below the knee. He leans to the left against a wall with an expression of pain and his arm lies limp at his side. A dark, wild haired female, who is facing to the right with her right arm across the male figure’s waist and clasps his left shoulder with her left hand, supports him. Both have eyes closed and mouths open with their heads close together. A sword lies on the floor in the bottom left corner.
