Summary
Head and shoulders portrait of a young man with short hair. He has deep set eyes and his hair is parted to the left. The subject is facing slightly to the right and is wearing a collar and tie. The lapels of his jacket are indicated in line. There is no background detail. Laurence Binyon (1869-1943) was a poet who wrote 'For the Fallen' of which the fourth verse is known today as the 'Ode of Remembrance'. He was also Keeper of Oriental prints and drawings at the British Museum from 1913. He belonged to a circle of artists and poets and was a regular patron of the Weiner Cafe in London with William Rothenstein, poet Ezra Pound, and artists Walter Sickert, Lucien Pissarro, Charles Ricketts and Edmund Dulac.
