Summary

Mug, hard paste porcelain. Cylindrical shape with plain loop handle, flat base. Painted in iron red, mauve, blue, green, yellow, brown and black enamel colours and gilt with, on the front, a haymaking scene; a man with a scythe seated in the foreground, Julius inscribed above, inside a cartouche of gilt scrollwork. To either side of the handle, a dwarf figure; one sharpening a scythe, the other carrying a fiasco bottle. Around the rim, a scrollwork and diaper border in gilt. This 'July' mug is part of a set of 12 beakers representing the months of the year.
