Summary
A view of the clock tower corner of Manchester Royal Exchange, the main centre for commodity trading in the city. The time is a couple of minutes after five, and the horse-drawn omnibus heading towards us on the right is already full of passengers. The detritus of a hot day in the city lies in the gutter in the foreground.
