Summary

A view of Piccadilly, Manchester, presumably taken from a window of the Queen's Hotel, which was on the corner of Piccadilly and Portland Street (now demolished). We look across the square towards the statue of the Duke of Wellington. The railings which surrounded Manchester Infirmary are to the left. Piccadilly and what can be seen of Market Street are very busy with horse-drawn and pedestrian traffic. In the foreground a man pulls a laden handcart which a woman pushes from behind. They are about to pass two street vendors: a man selling comestibles from a cart, and a woman who has a lot of bottles on her stall.
