Free Library
Francis Frith 07/10/1822 - 25/02/1898
Summary
View of the Free Library, formerly the Town Hall, on King Street, Manchester. We look from the left, diagonally towards the library. The architecture is austerely neo-clasiscal, with four tall fluted ionic columns forming the portico. A sign on the left corner of the library reads, 'Free / Reference / Library / Entrance ->'. A line of men and boys stand on the pavement outside the library, facing towards the photographer. Other figures in the right foreground are ghostly, having passed by during the taking of the image.
