Assize Courts
Francis Frith 07/10/1822 - 25/02/1898
Summary
Front right corner view of the vast Victorian Gothic Assize Court building, designed by architect Alfred Waterhouse in 1858 and demolished 99 years later after extensive bomb damage in World War Two. This vast Victorian edifice, formerly at Strangeways, to the north of the city centre, has rows of gothic-arched windows, in the style of an extended, land-bound, Venetian palace. There is a line of carriages outside the main gate to the right. A wall surrounds the courts.
