Summary
Full length portrait of a young female figure in profile, standing to right on a cloud, with her head turned to the viewer over her right shoulder. She wears a loose classical dress with a flowing gauze scarl attached to her head and flowing out behind her. She holds up a ewer, a classical jug, on a tray. Behind her, and to her left, is a huge eagle. She is depicted posing as Hebe, the mythical cupbearer to the gods. She is shown making an offering of nectar for the Gods; by her side is Jupiter, or Zeus, in the form of an eagle with outstretched wings clasping a thunderbolt in his left claw. Mary Meyer was the second daughter of the miniaturist artist, Jeremiah Meyer (1735-1789), a founding member of the Royal Academy. This print is a first state proof. Published by John Boydell.
