Summary

Portrait of the Misses Crewe in a classical garden setting after Reynolds; three-quarter length, standing, with Elizabeth on the right, holding a flower basket in one hand and embracing her sister, Emma, on the left; a first state proof. Elizabeth and Emma were daughters of John Crewe, Esq. M.P. for Cheshire, who died in 1752. Their brother was John Crewe, 1st Baron Crewe. In 1766 Elizabeth married Dr. Hinchcliffe, who later became Bishop of Peterborough.
