Summary
A portrait of Reynolds' godson, Charles John Bunbury, aged 9 (1772-1798), elder son of Henry William Bunbury, the aristocrat, artist and caricaturist, and Catherine Horneck. His mother Catherine Bunbury, nee Catherine Horneck, had been a ward of the artist Sir Joshua Reynolds following her father's death. See her portrait 'Mrs Catherine Bunbury' 1920.351. Henry Edward later succeeded his uncle as 7th Baronet in 1821. He was a distinguished officer; Lieutenant-General, 1830; for some years MP for Suffolk and Under Secretary for the war 1809-16. His second wife Emily Napier (whom he married in 1830) was the daughter of the Hon. George and Lady Sarah Napier. See the portrait of his mother 'Lady Sarah Bunbury' 1920.366.
