Summary

Public: Circular medallion, stoneware, solid white jasper with dark blue dip and applied white relief decoration depicting allegorical figures of France and Liberty. Private: Circular plaque with polished bevelled edges and dark blue dip on back and front. White relief decoration depicting allegorical scene of France and Liberty joining hands. France stands to the left with helmet and shield decorated with fleurs-de-lys, extending her arm towards Liberty on the right, carrying staff surmounted by Phrygian cap. Between them an altar decorated with caduceus and crossed cornucopiae, on top of which stands female statue carrying a basket of fruit and two corn sheaves, a small lamb at her feet. 1789 inscribed in white beneath statue. Elaborate white border of repeated fleurs-de-lys within beaded band. Black and gilt wooden frame.
