Summary

Public: Butter boat, soft paste porcelain, moulded, transfer-printed overglaze and enamelled overglaze with rural scenes. Private: Butter boat, pointed oval base, gently fluted sides flaring to scalloped rim and lip, angular wishbone handle, spur at thumb rest, pad at terminal. Exterior relief diaper and foliage moulding around handle, either side of lip at rim and base. Transfer printed black overglaze scenes. Milkmaid at Gate shows milkmaid with pail on her head standing to left of gate and man in tricorn hat. Right trees and fence, distant right farm buildings, set in rural lanscape. Milkmaid milking Cow shows two cows, one lying left and one central with rear facing viewer being milked by milkmaid on right. Flanked by two trees, houses distant right with track leading towards them. Transfer print overlaps relief moulding on base. Inner rim enamelled overglaze with diaper and foliage border.
