Summary

Public: Teabowl and saucer, soft paste porcelain, transfer printed overglaze in black, there are two different tea party scenes plus a maid and page scene, this is not a matching pair. Private: Teabowl : slightly tapered footring, transfer-printed overglaze, black, exterior. Tea Party no 2 shows a man and woman seated on garden bench with laden pedestal table to front and left. She is passing a teabowl and saucer to him, his staff leans against the bench. Right flowering plant and distant left trees. Maid and Page no 1 depicts lady standing to right of black page, she holds fan. Left and behind are trees, right a flowering plant. Inside bowl faded swimming swan, black band around inner rim. Saucer : shallow bowl, tapered footring, slightly everted rim. Black transfer-printed overglaze scene, Tea Party no 3, shows man and woman sitting opposite sides of round pedestal table. Small dog sits on ground between them. She is drinking from teabowl and he is drinking from handled cup. Straight handled chocolate pot and teapot on table. In the distance, right, behind tree is putti and shell fountain. Left flowering plant. Enamelled overglaze black band inner rim. Bottom left signed R. Hancock fecit.
