Worcester Porcelain Factory 1751

Summary

Public: Tea cup, soft paste porcelain, decorated in underglaze cobalt blue, iron red, green, blue enamels and gilt in imitation Japanese 'Imari' pattern. Private: Wide, shallow tea cup tapering to curved base with narrow footring. Main body divided into four vertical panels by four narrower underglaze blue panels, decorated with gilt foliage, circular reserve half way down, filled with flowers in red, green and gilt. White panels filled with large stylised chrysanthemums in red and gilt, and prunus stems in blue, with green leaves and background. Horizontal band of flowers reserved on underglaze blue ground with gilt edges round bottom of body. Sprig of flowers in red, green, blue and gilt in well. Ear shaped loop handle, with red motifs on back.
