Summary

Public: Mug, soft paste porcelain, reeded loop handle, transfer-printed overglaze, with rural scenes. Private: Mug, cylindrical, narrowing towards rim from foot, reeded loop handle, transfer-printed overglaze black with two scenes on exterior. The Milkmaids shows two milkmaids, one carrying pail on head, other, left, being helped with pail by man. Behind right, cow grazing in front of hayrick and ladder stretching up into tall tree. Left, distant cow grazing, haystack and farm building. Rural landscape, mass of foliage in foreground. May Day depicts merry scene. Centre two milkmaids, holding hands, outstretched arms, dancing in front of peddler wearing hat laden with flowers and silver. Right, one-legged fiddler playing, third milkmaid at edge, right, of group. Rural landscape, group flanked by trees, foreground mass of foliage. Transfer-printed overglaze, black, interlaced geometric pattern along handle. Some surface specks.
