Summary

Public: Teapoy and lid, soft paste porcelain, transfer-printed overglaze and enamelled overglaze in black with garden and ruin scenes. Private: Teapoy and lid, tall ovoid body rising from spread foot, high cylindrical neck, lid is low dome with flattened rim, topped with flower spray knop. Exterior, transfer-printed overglaze, black. Tea Party No.2 depicts man and woman seated on elegant bench, she passes teabowl and saucer to him, sword at his right. Front left laden pedestal table, distant left tree, behind balustrade ending with statue surmounting plinth and gate, garden landscape, dog foreground. The Minuet shows man and woman dancing, they hold hands with outstretched arms, she facing outward and weards garland of flowers about skirt, right. Beneath tree, musician sits on bank playing violin. Garden landscape, foreground foliage. Two small vignettes on lid, one shows tree by river, buildings on opposite shore, the other shows classical ruins amongst trees. Enamelled overglaze black band base of neck and lid rim, dashes on rear of garden bench.
