Summary

Public: Mug, soft paste porcelain, loop ribbed handle, terminating in scroll, transfer-printed overglaze in sepia black with scenes of Oriental life, birds and butterflies. Private: Mug, cylindrical body rising from spreading footring, slightly everted rim, ribbed loop handle terminating in scroll. Transfer-printed overglaze in sepia black. L'Oiseau Chinois shows woman in oriental dress leaning to right, on ornate birdcage with three legs, surmounted with scroll and hoop. Birdcage door open, bird rests on woman's right hand. At her feet, diagonally resting on rear platform, folded parasol. Above her head parrot on curved perch with discs and hanging device from stem. Bowl of food, with spoon, behind birdcage. Garden landscape, star flowers to right. La Dame Chinoise shows tall thin elegantly dressed woman beneath parasol held by small man to left. Stars adorn scarf about her shoulders, thin shawl trails to floor. Right, boy dances with bird on stick, tall lidded pot far right. Without scenery. Between two prints pair of butterflies. Enamelled overglaze black foliage and geometrical border on handle.
