Summary

Public: Tea poy and cover, soft paste porcelain, transfer-printed overglaze in mauve with romantic garden scenes. Private: Tea poy and cover, fluted ovoid body, narrow neck and waist, spreading foot, domed lid with flattened gilt edged rim, flower knop. Transfer-printed overglaze, exterior. The Minuet depicts man and woman, right, dancing with outstretched arms in garden lanscape. Right, violinist sits on bank, playing, beneath tree with outstretched branches. Foreground foliage, centre distance gate, hedge, hill and, left, tree. L'Amour shows man and woman, right, seated on bench, framed by two tall distant trees. Maid stands centre behind. Man leans to kiss lady's right hand, she flutters fan. Urn stands on plinth at end of balustrade to right. Distant balustrade with statuary to right. Foreground, right, garden roller, left, dog, centre, foliage. Distant left, Neptune and four horse fountain, formal row of trees. Lid printed with vignettes, one depicts round tower on riverbank, other shows ruins in landscape.
